4.5 My journey with the Calm app began during a particularly stressful period at work. I found myself struggling to unwind after long hours, and my sleep quality was suffering. One evening, I decided to give Calm a try. I settled into my favorite chair, opened the app, and selected a guided meditation focused on stress relief. The soothing voice of the instructor immediately put me at ease, and I felt the weight of the day slowly lift away. Since then, I’ve integrated Calm into my daily routine, using it during my morning coffee to set a positive mindset, and at night to help me transition into sleep.
The user interface of Calm is beautifully designed, with a calming color palette and intuitive navigation. Upon opening the app, I’m greeted with a serene home screen that showcases the Daily Calm session and various categories for meditation, sleep, and relaxation. The workflow is seamless; I can easily browse through different meditations, sleep stories, and soundscapes. The app performs smoothly, with no lag or crashes, which is crucial when I’m trying to relax. After using Calm consistently for several months, I can confidently say that it has significantly improved my mental well-being. The meditations are not only effective but also enjoyable, making it easy to incorporate mindfulness into my life.
Calm offers a free version with limited access to its features, which is a great way to explore the app. However, to unlock the full potential, including all meditations, sleep stories, and exclusive content, I opted for the premium subscription. The pricing is reasonable, especially considering the quality of the content provided. I appreciate that Calm often runs promotions, making it more accessible for users who want to invest in their mental health.
Calm is regularly updated with new content and features, which keeps the experience fresh and engaging. I’ve noticed that they frequently add new sleep stories and meditation series, which I look forward to. The support team is responsive and helpful; I once had a question about my subscription, and they resolved it quickly via email. Overall, the commitment to user satisfaction is evident, and it enhances my overall experience with the app.
As an American user, I take security and privacy seriously, and I was pleased to find that Calm is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring a level of credibility. The app requires registration, but the personal data requirements are minimal, which I appreciate. I only needed to provide my email address to create an account. Importantly, Calm does not bombard users with ads, which allows for an uninterrupted experience. Additionally, the app has a clear privacy policy that outlines how my data is used, and I feel confident that my information is secure. Overall, Calm prioritizes user privacy, making it a trustworthy choice for anyone looking to enhance their mental well-being.

I found it difficult to use. I want a brief "calm down" practice, not a 30 minute story, but couldn't figure out how to get that. But most significantly, if I am paying for a subscription, there should be no ads or pop-ups. (If there are ads, the app should be free.) I refuse to both pay a high subscription cost for a phone app AND get inundated with ads. Will be canceling the free trial (hopefully it will really cancel 🤞) and will uninstall.

The app itself is good. what I can't stand is the stupid nature sounds when the app is opened. It helps us fall asleep as y night, and it also wakes my wife up as I turn on the phone and it opens the app and proceeds with a loud sound of water rushing with bug noises. I can't seem to turn it off. Why is this necessary?!?! Why can I not quietly have the app load?

Hardly anything available for free to even try it out. One thing that keeps me from subscribing is the primary narrator voices are very annoying. Jay feels like he's shouting at me, it's grating. And the main woman - I forget her name - reads with a sort of condescending vocal fry affectation, like she is reading to children. I find it condescending and annoying. When you are experiencing stress, these are the last things you want.

Did the free trial. Calm sent me an email for 40% off. Clicked, subscribed, was charged full price. Took forever to manage to send them an inquiry. They've been "looking into it" for 8 days now. After six days, I emailed again to cancel and get a refund. Received another generic email that they are experiencing significant delays in response times. So, obviously, they don't care about customer service at all. I guess I'm going to have to do a chargeback.

Bad Customer Service. Calm charged me twice for an annual subscription, and despite several emails since January 15th when this happened, I have received no response other than a reply email on January 17th saying they"we are still looking into the issue". Clearly, no one is looking into the issue. I have sent a follow-up email every single week to try to recoup the $80 overcharge. Will never subscribe to this app ever again, and watch out if you ever need an issue resolved. No one will reply.
